Got my kilo of One in and whipped up the two demo decks: John Rambo vs Hannibal Lecter. Vampy and I then played a learning game at lunch at work.
First impressions: I like it. The rules, and especially turn sequence, are pretty clean — it can easily be distilled to a reference card. Play order is always determined by the player with the Drop, and there are no interrupts, so there are zero timing issues. It feels like a beefy descendant of “Star Wars: Clash of the Lightsabers” with a new theme and more depth.
I was undecided how I’d like the theme. I’m not a total fan of it, but I do like that you get (and will continue to get) a variety of interesting characters from different movies. Just from the one game we’ve played, I think the Rambo deck felt more like Rambo than the Hannibal deck did; in particular, Rambo’s ability to survive seems very effective and true to the character.
So, now it’s time to order some more cards. One game really whet my appetite for deck-building, another good sign. I need to decide what gang to join as well.
