One vs Two

So a friend got a kilo of Two and made a Michael Emerson (Lost Boys) deck. I tried the default Hannibal Lecter against it and lost rather handily. Some of the cards in Two seem very good, but then again, it is a true expansion with rares where One is a “fixed” set. I need to tweak up a new deck out of One and give it a shot, before deciding how much Two to order.

Still taking us more like 30 minutes for a game, but we’re still learning the cards and flow/pace of the game.

I Am Pleased

Got my kilo of One in and whipped up the two demo decks: John Rambo vs Hannibal Lecter. Vampy and I then played a learning game at lunch at work.

First impressions: I like it. The rules, and especially turn sequence, are pretty clean — it can easily be distilled to a reference card. Play order is always determined by the player with the Drop, and there are no interrupts, so there are zero timing issues. It feels like a beefy descendant of “Star Wars: Clash of the Lightsabers” with a new theme and more depth.

I was undecided how I’d like the theme. I’m not a total fan of it, but I do like that you get (and will continue to get) a variety of interesting characters from different movies. Just from the one game we’ve played, I think the Rambo deck felt more like Rambo than the Hannibal deck did; in particular, Rambo’s ability to survive seems very effective and true to the character.

So, now it’s time to order some more cards. One game really whet my appetite for deck-building, another good sign. I need to decide what gang to join as well.

Fight Klub Debut

This snuck up on me. I’ve been so busy with work and our new 10mo daughter that I have literally fallen off the wagon on gaming in general and Fight Klub in particular. I’ll try to devote some time in the next few days to get back on board, as well as order my first Kilo of cards.

I have two mentees assigned to me already, via Decipher. One is even in the same suburb where I live. I’ll probably start two Fight Klubs; a public club for our gaming group, the Green Country Gamers, and a private club for just my RL friends.

Cheers!

Mike
